Copart is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Vehicle Mechanical Inspector & Light Repair Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive mechanical inspections of vehicles, identifying issues, and performing light repair work to ensure their roadworthiness. Your expertise will contribute to the accurate representation of vehicles in our auctions and enhance the overall customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to assess their mechanical condition, including engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and other essential components, using diagnostic equipment and visual inspection techniques.
  2. Diagnostic Analysis: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical issues, such as engine malfunctions, electrical system failures, and drivability concerns, and accurately document findings for transparent disclosure to potential buyers.
  3. Light Repair Work: Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on vehicles to address identified issues, such as replacing fluids, filters, belts, hoses, bulbs, and other components, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  4. Documentation: Record inspection results and repair activities accurately and thoroughly using Copart's proprietary software systems, maintaining detailed records for reference and documentation purposes.
  5. Quality Assurance: Adhere to Copart's standards and guidelines for mechanical inspections and repair work, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of vehicle assessments and promoting customer satisfaction and trust.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including Vehicle Inspectors, Cosmetic Inspectors, and Auction Coordinators, to facilitate effective communication and workflow coordination and support efficient auction operations.
  7. Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries and concerns related to vehicle mechanical condition and repair status, and striving to exceed customer expectations.
  8. Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe and clean working environment, including proper handling of tools and equipment, disposal of hazardous materials, and adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in automotive technology or a related field preferred.
  2. Must have a valid drivers’ license.
  3. Proven experience in automotive mechanical inspection, diagnostics, and light repair work, preferably in a dealership, automotive repair shop, or similar setting.
  4. ASE Certifications A1, A4, A5 are a plus.
  5. Strong knowledge of automotive systems and components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  6. Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools, and computerized systems for vehicle inspection and repair tasks.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-focused approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
  9. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to learn and apply new skills and techniques as needed.
