At Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, our mission is to build global business knowledge and inspire ethical leaders to serve the common good. The McDonough Career Center is seeking a highly specialized professional dedicated to supporting the career aspirations of students and alumni enrolled in Graduate and Executive Degree Programs at the Georgetown McDonough School of Business, with a focus on early career programs.

The Director, McDonough Career Services Graduate and Executive Degree Program will have a primary partnership in the Master of Science in Environmental Sustainability Management (MSESM) program. The MS-ESM program is an interdisciplinary joint-degree program between the Georgetown Earth Commons Institute, the McDonough School of Business (MSB), and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (GSAS). The Director will have the opportunity to lead and advance the strategic career initiatives and will be responsible for developing and coordinating career events in partnership with members of the McDonough Career Center and early career Graduate and Executive Degree programs. They will be responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships with organizations for projects, internships, guest talks, and career panels, with a priority of engaging individuals from companies and organizations interested in hiring graduates of the program. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the McDonough Career Center, Graduate and Executive Degree Programs, the Director has duties include but are not limited to:

Career Coaching & Student Development
  • Provide 1:1, small, and large group career coaching to students throughout the academic year.
  • Develop a career development/job search strategy to align with each student's individual career goals.
  • Maintain consistent communication and monitor career progress.

Career Programming, Digital Resource Management, & Employer Development
  • Partner with various members of the McDonough Career Center to design and execute a set of comprehensive and effective career programming offerings for early career students, ensuring that students are employer-ready in the competitive global recruiting environment.
  • Serve in an interdisciplinary role, working with various McDonough Career Center team members, multiple departments across the McDonough School of Business (Program Offices, Admissions, Marketing & Communications, and Alumni Offices), and current students to ensure comprehensive career programming.
  • Interact with other Georgetown Career Centers for joint programming, overseeing and auditing digital resources (e.g. Canvas) to improve the quality of presentations.
  • In partnership with career colleagues, implement appropriate digital resources for students.
  • Engage alumni and employers to build institutional hiring relationships for projects, internships, and full-time jobs post-graduation for an early career student population.
  • Develop new and grow existing relationships with alumni and employer contacts to create recruiting pipelines into corporations and organizations for graduate degree students.

Onboarding & Strategic Communications Leadership
  • Manage large-scale career onboarding of admitted students, working closely with the McDonough Graduate Program Office and Admissions teams to ensure that all matriculating students are aware of their career resources.
  • Establish, drive, and strategically advance the mission of students' career outcomes by developing communication strategies to impact a diverse set of internal and external audiences (employers, students, prospective employers, prospective students, alumni, faculty and staff).
  • Work collaboratively with members of the McDonough Career Center and the Marketing and Communications teams to develop employment outcomes reports for Graduate and Executive Degree Programs with highly visible, annual marketing pieces, leading the collection of annual student testimonials and success stories.

Work Interactions

The Director will be the primary point of contact for students, faculty, employers, and staff regarding the day-to-day execution of the Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability Management (MS-ESM) and the program's career initiatives. The incumbent takes direct accountability of strategic communications to our diverse set of stakeholders (prospective and current students, alumni, employers, and faculty/staff). S/he also brings leadership in acting as a representative to inter-departmental initiatives and develops relationships to support and advance the McDonough Career Center's value proposition to constituents across the school. Key internal stakeholders with whom the Director works closely include the Academic Directors, the Admissions team, the Program Office, the McDonough Office of Marketing & Communications, and the Office of Alumni Relations.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business, Management, Human Resources, Higher Education or related discipline
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in business, recruiting, or human resources / career development (preferably in a business school setting) fields
  • Career development expertise with specific insights into job search and promotions strategy, tools, and practice
  • Demonstrated ability to provide thoughtful, developmental career coaching in one-on-one, small, and large group settings, with strong leadership and coaching/advising skills
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across a variety of constituents, including students in specialty master's programs, corporate recruiters and employers, alumni, faculty and staff
  • Exceptional presentation design and delivery skills, expert interpersonal and workplace diplomacy skills, and knowledge of effectively conveying messages to key stakeholders
  • Interdisciplinary mindset with the ability to positively represent the McDonough Career Center among both internal and external audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and deliver results by working with others with and understanding of adult learning styles
  • Experience utilizing virtual content delivery platforms and other digital systems including but not limited to: Zoom, WebEx, GoToWebinar, Qualtrics, Salesforce, Loom, Basecamp, and Dreamweaver
  • Highly collaborative with a strategic mindset, attention to detail, and effective communication (written, presentation, and teaching) skills

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Employer connections within the environmental and sustainability field
  • Experience and knowledge within the intersection of business, environmental, and sustainability fields
  • Prior experience working in a corporate recruitment setting
  • Career coaching certification and ICF/equivalent credential
  • 2 years of college-level instruction/teaching experience
  • Competent with online media to include databases, inter and intranet, social media sites, and campus recruiting software
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and strong working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides)

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
