Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN – ECT provides and coordinates patient care, educates patients and their caregivers about treatment and various health conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and caregivers. RN’s must use independent and considerable judgment in providing a wide variety of services. As directed by a psychiatrist, and/or the anesthesiologist RN’s also give patients medication and treatments. The ECT RN evaluates post procedure patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care given before and after treatment. The RN will ensure a safe environment of care. The ECT RN is directly responsible and accountable for working with other departments to ensure the continuity of care. 

General Functions

• Progresses related to compliance with policies, procedures and clinical and behavioral practices.
• Interactions with: Internal and External customers.
• Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' condition both physical and psychological.
• Maintain accurate detailed reports and records of the recovery process.
• Record patients' medical information and records.
• Order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' condition.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
• Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Monitor all aspects of patient care while in the ECT recovery area and instruct caregivers, and other staff members on topics to develop health improvements.
• Prepare patients for procedure prior to and after treatment.
• Prepare educate patients and caregivers on discharge instructions and aftercare.
• Demonstrates sound knowledge base in nursing practice and its clinical application to the patient population served in operation of equipment and policy and procedure used in delivery of care.
• Has knowledge of ECT procedures, techniques and consequent nursing interventions.
• Able to recognize and respond to critical markers and assess in corrective action based upon nursing standards, policies and procedure protocol.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Registered Nurse
• Bachelors Degree
• Two years ADULT PACU experience REQUIRED
• Peripheral IV insertion proficiency REQUIRED
• ACLS REQUIRED
