Environmental Health & Safety Internship - Collegiate

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION :

The EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) program ensures the safety, health, and well-being of staff, visitors, and the environment. Some of the key responsibilities and functions of the EH&S program include: developing and implementing safety programs, risk assessment and management, compliance with regulations, safety inspections and audits, and collaborating with stakeholders.

POSITION SUMMARY :

Under the guidance of the EH&S Manager, the EH&S Intern will have hands-on experience in developing and updating safety procedures, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), personal protective equipment (PPE) selection, Process (Demonstration) Safety Evaluations, Ergonomic Assessments, and safety audits and inspections. The EH&S Intern will adhere to relevant EH&S regulations, standards, and guidelines while developing procedures, conducting analyses, and performing inspections. They will be provided an opportunity to work closely with managers, and staff from various museum departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Participate in safety procedural evaluations and inspections throughout the Museum, focusing on identifying potential hazards and evaluating existing safety measures.
  • Collaborate with EH&S Manager and area supervisors and staff to identify equipment and processes requiring updates or new safety procedures and JSAs.
  • Conduct interviews, observations, and research to gather necessary information for updating safety procedures and JSAs.
  • Perform regular inspections of safety equipment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Pursuing a degree or coursework in environmental health and safety, occupational health and safety, Public Health or a related field. Actively enrolled or within a year of being graduated.
  • Attention to detail is a crucial skill when conducting inspections, documenting observations, and identifying potential hazards or deficiencies in safety equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

SPECIAL SKILLS : (Preferred skills and/or experiences, but not required for the position)

Experience with providing training

Experience with conducting safety & health inspections

Experience with working in databases

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP : Fall Semester: September - December 2024/January2025

LOCATION: In-Person, 1 Science Park Boston, MA

WORK SCHEDULE : Weekdays only. Flexible shifts, 20-28 Hours / week Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM

PAY RATE : The pay rate for internships is $15.25 per hour.
