Job Summary:
Looking for a motivated, skilled, detail-oriented Groundskeeper III to join our team and guide a crew in maintaining the Oklahoma State University campus!
Responsibilities include coordinating and working as part of a team to maintain the overall landscape, turf, and grounds in a designated zoned area, including parking lots, sidewalks, and other exterior areas, and/or specially assigned related projects.
This position will coordinate projects and see them through to completion while motivating, evaluating, and effectively managing a crew as a team.
Additional responsibilities include identifying various plants, trees, and, the types of insects and diseases that cause damage to all areas of the University grounds.
This position will require the ability to work as a team and perform physical tasks outdoors in extreme heat, cold, and during precipitation; high levels of dust; operating hazardous equipment, hazardous noise levels and handling hazardous odoriferous chemicals.
Reports directly to the Landscape Services Maintenance Supervisor and to the Landscape Services Manager in the absence of the Supervisor. Additional routine labor may be required to support other Facilities Management departments and staff, as well as frequent contact with campus faculty, staff and students.
Blackout Leave Periods: Landscape Services has three identified blackout periods each year. No leave will be approved during these times. Leave requests will not be approved for the month of May, August, and October until the dates for each event listed below are posted with main campus.
1. Two weeks prior to First day of School for Fall Semester
2. Two weeks before Homecoming
3. Two weeks before Spring Commencement
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm, and/or shift work when management deems necessary. The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of weather will be required; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel. The job might require some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies, this may include working during non-business hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions.
The employee in this position will work outside in extreme heat and cold, and during precipitation. They may be exposed to high levels of dust, operate equipment with hazardous noise levels, and handle odoriferous chemicals.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications: High School/GED
Three years of work experience related to the job duties as outlined in the job description.
Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.). These items are not for personal use.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Strong attention to work detail, leadership, decision making, and organizational skills.
Knowledge and keen understanding of landscaping and turf design, installation, and maintenance practices and principles.
Ability to read and decipher chemical labels and apply pesticides under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.
Strong background and knowledge in plant identification.
Must be able to identify insects, diseases, and the damage these pests cause to the university grounds.
Must be able to work under minimal supervision.
Ability to operate grounds and landscape related equipment.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to become proficient in the use of "AIM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those with previous groundskeeping, horticulture, landscape or related field with one year of supervisory experience.
