The mission of McCormick Montessori Child Care is to provide children with a continuum of learning experiences in an inclusive setting that reflects the Montessori practices, and support the love and growth of each child. McCormick Montessori believes in embedded learning practices in which the child is provided opportunities to grow and learn. We create an environment that encourages children to ask questions and have independent thoughts and ideas.We provide the tools and space to spark an interest in learning.
McCormick staff delivers constant communication and updates to families on each child's development. We use the progress monitoring tool, Brightwheel to track a child's person progress to create a learning environment to support each child individualized growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Prepare an environment that meet educational requirements in an age-appropriate manner, and teach in a manner suitable for the ages of all participating students (age 2 - up to 5- year old.
- Prepare activities for students according to the age, developmental milestones, and needs of the children being taught.
- Manage a busy classroom environment, and provide the structure required for successful learning for everyone in the classroom.
- Help children meet educational milestones through personalized instruction and other supplementary assistance.
- Collaborate with other teachers, instructors, and staff members to create an optimal learning and care environment.
- Conduct Bi-weekly team meetings
- Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student's individual progress
- Provide helpful feedback to parents and guardians on a regular or as-needed basis.
- Work with diverse populations of children and adults from a wide variety of cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds.
- Address basic interpersonal skills, such as sharing, taking turns, and asking permission in the classroom.
- Participate in Mandatory, Professional Development Days
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS - Must hold an Associate or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Development, Education or related field, or currently enrolled in a B.A./B.S program
- At minimum, two years or 60 credit hours of college coursework- 6 credit hours of which are in childhood development, OR must be enrolled and pursuing completion of degree at time of hire.
Experience/Skills: - 2-3 years' experience working in a child care setting.
- Organizational ability, sound judgment, ability to communicate effectively, and ability to plan and implement classroom programs to achieve institutional goals.
- Must be able to pass Swedish Hospital Local and State Clearances.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION - Proof of required physical exam and vaccines as specified by IDPH and DCFS guidelines
Preferred: - Bachelor's degree in Education or Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Montessori Teaching Certification .
- 2-3 years working with children ages 2- 5.
- CPR certification with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Montessori Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Willing to enroll in classes or learn more about the Montessori Method.
