Summary of Position:

The LSS Master Black Belt collaborates with management across all functional areas to eliminate waste, minimize process variation, and enhance the experiences of customers and employees. This role leads, facilitates, and coordinates the training of all Lean Six Sigma belts in tools, methodologies, and leadership to ensure successful project outcomes.

Additionally, the Master Black Belt supports strategic objectives by leading project identification activities to build a robust project pipeline. They spearhead advanced, complex, multi-functional, and high-value projects to surpass established goals and objectives.

As a subject matter expert in Lean Six Sigma methodologies and practices, the Master Black Belt is a pivotal figure in continuous improvement efforts. Reporting to the CI Business Leader, the position may require travel up to 20%, and occasionally up to 50%, for training events or business needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate LSS training for Black Belts, Green Belts, Yellow Belts and Kaizen Leaders.
  • Coach Black Belts, Green Belts, Yellow Belts and Kaizen Leaders in the use of LSS principles to effectively lead projects to reduce cycle time and maximize financial benefits.
  • Coach all belts on Leadership skills and Team work facilitation.
  • Lead DMAIC projects in the support of strategic initiatives.
  • Lead Design for Lean Six Sigma projects where the process does not exist or is severely broken.
  • Lead CI training. Establish, publish, maintain, and update a KINA CI training plan. Facilitate teaching in both the classroom, shop floor, and office environments.
  • Serve as a role model for excellent instructional training and development of these capabilities in others
  • Work with the CI Business Leader and business stakeholders to develop and manage the LSS project pipeline ensuring projects are identified, analyzed, prioritized and in alignment with functional area goals.
  • Coordinate and conduct sponsor training.
  • Continuously assess and improve training curriculum to reduce cycle time and maximize project results.
  • Continuously improve the replication process to leverage prior project findings to maximize network benefits.
  • Insures effective two way communication between key stakeholders, including team member selection and process changes.
  • Manages certification process for all Belts.
  • Updates project status and financial benefits in LSS databases for their and the projects of the belts they coach.
  • Influence key stakeholders to align processes with the voice of the customer and ensure projects are integrated with the business strategy and other business activities and improvement projects.
  • Develop adequate integration of the LSS into the Knauf CI Framework vision and strategies throughout the organization with the goal of incorporating LSS into the culture and daily activities.
  • Updates the CI Business Leader and Project Sponsor with project status, recommends corrective action and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Visually Track and communicate results to sponsors and business leaders.
  • Understand, cultivate, and improve the KINA CI culture. Using a process focus, facilitate the leadership team to establish/improve leader standard work, visual controls, and standard accountability processes. Ensure innovation programs are effective. Improve team problem solving. Involve everyone.
  • Conduct annual VSM /TOC analysis in alignment to Business Plan
  • Improves training modules for KINA

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree required.

Certification Requirements:

  • For promotion to this position from within the organization the employee must have successfully completed the KINA Black Belt Certification Process.
  • External candidates must have completed an approved Black Belt and Master Black Belt Certification program.

Years of Experience:

  • Requires minimum of 7 years of work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of LSS or Lean Management experience is required.
  • Requires minimum of 5 years of leadership experience; includes leading LSS teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mastery of LSS and Lean Management tools.
  • Must successfully complete Design for Lean Six Sigma training.

  • Effective in coaching Black Belts, Green Belts, Yellow Belts and Kaizen Leaders.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Exhibits strong critical thinking skills to handle ambiguity and situations where there is no clear answer or prescribed path.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, values diversity and demonstrates the ability to build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Must be a results-oriented change agent able to drive project completion and influence employees and key stakeholders.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Minitab, and remote meeting software and the ability to teach to others.
