Job Description

Must Haves:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 4+ years as a network engineer
• Has worked with IP/MPLS service routers
• Experience using Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP)

Plusses:

• Any of the following certs: Nokia Network Routing Specialist (NRS), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or certifications in RF microwave design

Overview:

They will be responsible for the design, planning, implementation, and administration of Unisource’s substation LAN/WAN telecommunications system, create engineered designs and documentation for new and existing communication facilities. This includes administering Ethernet and other networks for multiple Wide Area Networks. Conduct engineering studies and evaluate alternative designs for communication equipment, specify materials, and estimate costs for projects. Additionally, evaluate suppliers and products, manage communications projects, and train less experienced personnel.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

Design and Planning:

• Design scalable, cost-effective network solutions for UniSource and subsidiaries.
• Create network architecture documents and maps.
• Plan cable layouts using Ethernet, microwave, fiber optics, and radio.
• Integrate RF microwave systems with Nokia’s Wavence/UBT.
• Use Nokia and Siemens/Ruggedcom routers and switches

Implementation and Management:

• Oversee installation of routers, modems, RF microwave equipment, and other hardware/software.
• Implement and maintain network security measures.
• Monitor and adjust network performance for efficiency and security.
• Configure and manage Nokia and Siemens/Ruggedcom routers and switches.
• Use Nokia NSP for network management and automation.
• Follow change control processes and maintain service levels.

Project Engineering/Management:

• Manage communications projects as a project engineer/manager.
• Initiate work orders and track expenditures for Capital Budget projects.
• Create design specifications for bidding and purchasing.
• Recommend equipment to meet project needs and improve installations.
• Assist in preparing and adhering to O&M and Capital Budgets.
• Evaluate vendor products to ensure long-term network reliability.
