The salary range for this position is $93,150 - $121,958.
We are looking for a Packaging Engineer to develop and execute processes for ion trap characterization and packaging. Partnering with a cross-functional team, the Packaging Engineer will work to stand up critical assembly processes along with tools, documentation, inventory management and systems in support of producing both engineering development devices and customer products. This critical team member will work to establish, characterize, and improve our current and future processes through a disciplined engineering approach as we progress on our mission to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.
Responsibilities: - Develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve optomechanical assembly processes in support of surface ion trap packaging
- Support daily cleanroom operations
- Responsible for upkeep and operation of key equipment such as wire bonder, die attachment, reflow ovens and plasma cleaners
- Maintain and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance SOPs for area of responsibility
- Maintain clear documentation and organization of assembled components
- Strong hands-on attitude and ability to work up to 6 hours a day in a cleanroom
- Support new lab equipment installation and qualification
- Support end-to-end yield improvements and touch time reduction
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action on production failures
- Troubleshoot and correct equipment failures
You'd be a good fit with: - 2+ years of experience in high-tech, engineering driven, R&D or new product introduction (NPI) environment of complex optomechanical systems, subsystems and components
- 2+ years of electronics packaging experience with processes such as wire bonding, flip-chip bonding, solder reflow, epoxy handling and optics assembly
- Experience maintaining cleanroom equipment
- Fine motor skills and excellent attention to detail
- Mechanically inclined, analytic, detail-oriented, possesses quantitative analysis skills, self-motivated, great team member, able to proactively communicate with employees at all levels while delivering excellence in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Mechanical, electrical and optical equipment troubleshooting experience
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional development teams including engineering, research and development
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Science
You'd be a great fit with: - Experience transforming R&D prototypes into highly reliable products
- General knowledge of complex optical, electrical or mechanical products and systems
- Experience with microfabrication processes
- Experience with photonics or optics packaging
- Ability to act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs and factories and/or supplier health development
- Best-in-class cross-functional communication, collaboration & presentation skills
- Ability to be on-site every day
Location: This position s located in our bright, airy headquarters in College Park, MD.
The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options which can be found on our site at ionq.co/jobs. Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
