Position Summary:

The Research Assistant performs various assays, imaging, mouse experiments, and other technical duties to assist with the research activities of the laboratory and may be required to work with animal models. The individual will carry out research projects studying drug resistant breast cancer research and at the same time manage all aspects of the daily functioning of a research laboratory.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Report and communicate with the principal investigator on daily or regular basis about results and research progress, or any other research matter.
  • Maintaining documentation, record keeping, supplies and inventory, and all aspects of the laboratory that include clean, smooth and safe operation of laboratory and equipment.
  • Ensuring all Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations that include biosafety and chemical hygiene in the laboratory, and safety of all individuals working in the laboratory.
  • Recommend new approaches and procedures, collaborate with various departments to identify and resolve any technical issues, participate in meetings,
  • Plan and coordinate research projects, train and supervise students and new laboratory members in executing projects in a timely fashion.
  • Develop, maintain, review and recommend improvements to lab procedures and experimental protocols.
  • Stay current with latest developments in research, lab procedures and techniques.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Writing skills to prepare manuscripts for publication and contribute to grant applications
  • Alertness in staying current with research literature.
  • Computer skills – Microsoft office, Graph Pad Prism, ImageJ and other data analysis software and tools

Education and Experience:

  • The minimum level of education required for the position is B.S. in molecular biology, biochemistry or equivalent with at least 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience after graduation.
  • M.S. and 1-2 years of experience in DNA cloning, qRT-PCR, western blotting analysis, tissue/cell culture, and animal preferred.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Additional Information:

This position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this particular role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site. Standard work hours are from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process.
