Research Microbiologist in 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to:
Purpose (Objective): This position is responsible for working in a cooperatively team environment where scientists collaborate on contract research designed to promote the safety, quality and nutrition of the global food supply. The incumbent is responsible for the testing of samples supporting research studies using various microbiological analyses. The incumbent provides analytical support for the lab by ensuring that laboratory procedures are being performed within specified quality guidelines. The incumbent contributes to defined contract research projects by performing lab tests, data interpretation and maintaining documentation in accordance with required specifications, established procedures, and customer service standards.
Main activities: •Executes contract research project according to proposals including daily documentation of work performed.
•Perform sample analysis including product inoculation, diagnostic and quantitative analysis for contract research. Provide feedback and suggest process improvement changes.
•Interpret data for contract research project and communicate to lab management.
•Educate and train departmental personnel on correct procedures and new analysis methods or laboratory equipment.
•Initiate and investigate non-conformances through root cause analysis and determine corrective actions. Assist laboratory management in implementation of corrective actions.
•Maintain quality control documentation and communication deviations to lab management.
•Perform cultural confirmation to verify the purity and identity of the strain of microorganism, and communicate unexpected results to lab management.
•Maintain technical expertise of testing and protocol execution as a resource in laboratory
•Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
•Assist other departmental personnel with analysis procedures.
•Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

Communication: Internal Interlocutors: The incumbent has occasional contact with the personnel outside the immediate working unit.

YOUR PROFILE Knowledge: Profile:
•1-2 years of experience is preferred.
•Must have a general knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain the correct results.
•Basic chemistry knowledge is needed to prepare the media to the specification of the sample.
•A basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of a sample.
Required skills:
•The incumbent is required to lift 10-20 pounds of sample on a daily basis.
•The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
•The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.
Management:

Work Environment:
The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Increased temperatures exist when working around the autoclaves. Safety equipment includes eye protection, laboratory coat, and heat resistant gloves for autoclave use.
