POSITION SUMMARY

The Security Officer is responsible for creating and promoting a safe and welcoming, environment at Cumberland Heights. This position reports directly to the Security Manager. The Security Officer must be able to interpret and take appropriate actions regarding conditions and incidents relating to safety and security on campus and off campus sites.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides a prompt and courteous customer service-oriented response to patients, families, and visitors to the campus.
  2. Provides the presence and actions necessary to promote a safe and secure environment by
  3. Maintaining awareness of patient schedule and campus activities.
  4. Identifying and addressing any issues relating to safety and security.
  5. Routinely patrolling each building, parking lots and campus grounds.
  6. Communicating regularly and effectively with medical/clinical staff.
  7. Monitoring all Campus Security CCTV cameras and exterior grounds cameras.
  8. Monitoring and responding to all incoming communications to Security via email or phone.
  9. Monitoring Fire Panel System and Alarms.
  10. Maintaining documentation and approvals for all patient property to be brought to campus.
  11. Completes Daily Routine Activity Reports (DAR) in the Security scanner phone, documenting Emergency Codes and maintenance issues found.
  12. Completes CHIRP Incident Reports regarding any event outside of normal operations before the end of assigned shift.
  13. Responds to emergency situations such as Code Reds, Code Blues, Code Greys, and Code Yellows according to established policies and procedures, including acting as the designated First Responder in emergency codes.
  14. De-escalates and manages physical and verbal altercations, according to established policies and procedures, focusing on using the least amount of physical force that is necessary, as well as on ways to prevent future recurrence.
  15. Maintains current certifications as required of an unarmed security officer.
  16. Participates in debriefing and peer reviews regarding any critical situations.
  17. Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
  18. Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
  19. Reacts productively to change.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned such as:
  21. Delivering of packages, boxes, and company mail to the mail room.
  22. Delivery of Patient Medications to the Medical building.
  23. Escorting visitors, Metro/Sheriff departments or Emergency Responders to appropriate locations.
  24. Vehicle searches and processing of prohibited items found, according to established policies and procedures.
  25. Performing routine 2-hour Rotations from Welcome Center and Campus Grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one (1) year experience as an unarmed Security officer required with a valid and active Tennessee Armed Guard license, experience working in healthcare-related field preferred, officer will receive on the job training for the unique environment. Successful completion of required training courses but may also be given on the job in addition to CPR/First Aid, Handle With Care, and Crisis Prevention & Intervention. Valid Tennessee driver’s license is required.

OTHER SKILLS

Must be in good physical health; ability to lift up to 75 pounds; ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time; ability of constant use of manual dexterity, coordination, mobility, visual discrimination, hearing and concentration; ability to run or climb stairs in rapid manner; ability to lift and/or restrain individuals using strength; ability to make decisions under stressful conditions; ability to drive a motor vehicle or other related vehicle; ability to speak, read and write in English; excellent customer service and interviewing skills; excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; superior organizational skills for managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects; superior ability to work independently; proficient in use of PC; If recovering, two years of verifiable abstinence required with five years preferred and active participation in the appropriate Twelve Step Program preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position requires both internal and external occupational setting. Internal setting involves everyday risks or discomforts of an office environment, such as prolonged sitting or use of computers. External setting involves exposure to weather conditions (i.e., cold, heat, rain, snow, or ice) and routine exposure to the possibility of occupational injury or infection which requires special safety & BBP precautions. Weekend, Evening and Overtime work may be required at times.
