Position Highlights

The Program Director of the Arizona Telemedicine Program (ATP) is a full-time opportunity primarily responsible for developing, implementing, supporting, and evaluating strategies to increase telehealth activities (all health services provided using telecommunications technology to enhance health care, including education delivery, support, and clinical care) in rural, urban, and underserved areas statewide. Duties include the development and oversight of educational programs, training and technical assistance, and the development of a long-term strategic plan. The Director is also responsible for pursuing external funding opportunities, providing progress reports to funding agencies, meeting program objectives, and staffing the program.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides the leadership and the vision for the ATP to develop long- and short-term strategies for supporting telehealth activities throughout Arizona.
  • Works closely with leadership to develop, execute, and refresh a strategic plan and direction that fosters the mission, goals, and objectives of the University of Arizona in concert with its strategic direction.
  • Oversees the development and conduct of statewide regional educational sessions.
  • Collaborates with Banner University Medical in the development and implementation of clinical telehealth activities and related research opportunities.
  • Serves as the representative for the ATP and advocates for and educates on issues and needs for telehealth programs with federal and state governmental agencies.
  • Engages in activities to influence policy, legislation, or regulatory action to promote the use of, and expansion of telehealth, in alignment with the University of Arizona Federal Relations Team.
  • Stays current on telehealth-related topics and keeps the ATP Council, faculty, and staff apprised of activities, progress, and future plans.
  • Advances the field of telehealth through innovative research, including new technologies, implementation science, and effectiveness research.
  • Develops and oversees day-to-day administration of the ATP-awarded grants.
  • Develops a strategic plan to sustain and expand the ATP operations into the future.
  • Oversees the ATP telehealth training and research centers.
  • Conducts the ATP Council meetings, national and state conferences, other workshops, and other education activities.
  • Advances the knowledge of internal and external providers regarding opportunities and adoption of telehealth solutions.
  • Fosters innovation and new opportunities for the use of telehealth in local, regional, national, and international markets.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold an MD, DO, or PhD degree.
  • Must have or be qualified for a faculty appointment in one of the colleges within the University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Background in telehealth, including clinical context (telemedicine).
  • Strong record of academic achievements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 10 years' telehealth related experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Strong record of funding and publication in telehealth.
  • Clinical experience in telehealth.
  • Experience working in/with an academic medical center.
